About Me

Hello! My name is Chie. I am likely to be the girl you'll see whose eyes would bulge out of their sockets at the sight of a book store and be seized by waves of epileptic shock whenever there is a book bargain. I'll probably be the one pushing you out of my way to get through the book bargain bins and tediously combing through the pile. (I forget my manners when it comes to books). I am tone deaf and have two left feet. But I would endure the embarrassment of a performance in exchange for books (terms and conditions apply). I have created this blog in order to find kindred souls. Those who would gladly share the same passion for books and reading because although reading is solitary task most of the time, it's no fun having no one to ramble to after..

Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes
Date: Tuesday, December 22, 2015
Time: 12:54 AM

Author: Rick Riordan
Illustrator: John Rocco
Rating: 5/5

Synopsis: Who cut off Medusa's head? Who was raised by a she-bear? Who tamed Pegasus? It takes a demigod to know the answers and Percy Jackson can fill you in on all the daring deeds of Perseus, Atalanta, Bellerophon, and the rest of the major Greek Heroes. Told in a funny, irreverent style readers have come to expect from Percy. And for anyone who needs a hero. So get your flaming spear. Put on your lion-skin cape. Polish your shield, and make sure you've got arrows in your quiver.

Review: Simple. Direct. Bloody fun!

Well first of all, I am a bit biased because I think everything Rick Riordan does is gold. He's an amazing writer. Period. I love how he's branched off into writing book like this. He previously released Percy Jackson's Greek Gods which was really fun to read and a New York Times Best Seller as well. What I love most about these two books (besides the fact that they give me something  to read whilst I wait impatiently for Riordan's next novel to be released) is that they're told through Percy Jackson's voice. It's hysterical and nonsensical and complete magic. Plus I can guarantee you that you will forget that Percy Jackson isn't real and it's actually a fifty something year-old man writing the book. That's just how real Percy Jackson seems.

This book was one of the most entertaining books I've read in a while. You can learn about all the crazy Greek myths in a really fun way and I promise you'll find yourself laughing out loud. It's a great companion book to the series Riordan has written but it can be read as a stand alone - although some of the jokes are much funnier if you know the characters from the series well.

Another plus, the artwork in the book is awesome! John Rocco is a very talented illustrator that has worked closely with Riordan over the years. They're like a dream team. I would very much love to meet both of them one day but I think I would fangirl so hard that I would either a) stand there, staring at them with my mouth open before running away or b) faint. Yep, just drop.

I like the theory that Amazon comes from the Persian term ha-mazan, which means warriors. I like that theory because Annabeth likes that theory and if I don't like what she likes she gets all ha-mazan  on me.

Overall, I love this book! I just want to hug it but I don't want to suffocate any of the monsters or heroes inside. I don't need a full-scale monster/demigod war raging in my living room.
